Saving on Packing Supplies Can Make Moving More Affordable

Moving in Brandon Hill isn’t cheap. If you’re planning to relocate, you want to use every strategy available for saving a few dollars. For most aspects of moving, you can’t save without compromising on value but there’s one area where you can cut costs without putting yourself at a risk: packing supplies.

Before you start thinking on how to save on packing supplies, create a packing supply list that includes boxes and packing tape among other things. You’ll probably add other items to the list along the way but it’s a good idea to have a good starting list.

  1. Plastic containers

Plastic containers making packing and moving incredibly easy. Before you go out and buy plastic containers, find out if your friends and family have containers you can borrow. Most people have a few containers. Just make sure you label them with masking so that you remember which container belongs to who.

Another reason why you might want to get plastic containers instead of buying moving boxes is you can use the plastic containers for storage around the house when you move. They don’t take up too much space and they’ll come in handy the next time you move. To store them, remove the lids and stack the containers together inside each other.

If you prefer not to buy plastic containers because you have limited storage space or your budget won’t allow it, you can rent them.

  1. Used boxes

Liquor and wine boxes are great for moving, especially for packing books. You can get these boxes at most wine and liquor stores. The boxes are of good quality because they’re designed to carry small but heavy loads, so you can use them to pack books. These boxes are also easy to manage because you can’t over pack them. Just makes sure you get strong and clean used boxes with no soft sides.

If you prefer to use only moving boxes, you can save money by buying used moving boxes from online eBay or Craigslist. Some people even give away these boxes because they don’t want to go through the process of recycling them.

  1. Garbage bags

Garbage bags are another cost-saving option but you need to be careful with these because they rip easily. They probably best for carrying only bedding and clothes. It’s a good idea to buy clear garbage bags so that you can see what’s inside, which makes it easier to know in which room they belong.

  1. Linens, clothing, and plastic bags

You can use linens, pillows, clothing, towels, and grocery bags to pack fragile items. If you use this option, make sure you clearly label the boxes with the items you’ve packed inside the linens or clothing so that the moving company knows how to handle them. Keep your eyes on fragile boxes by carrying them in your car.

Newspapers and other waste paper can also be useful for packing fragile items. Prevent your fragile china from chipping or breaking by using shredded paper which you can collect from your place of work or local offices.
